Forget Me Not: Let’s Talk Alzheimer’s & Brain Health

June is all about raising awareness for Alzheimer’s, a disease that impacts millions globally, including over 8.1 million people right here in India.

While memory loss is a big symptom, there’s so much more to know. Let’s break it down:
Dementia: This is a general term for memory decline caused by brain damage.
Alzheimer’s: This is a specific type of dementia, affecting 60-80% of cases.

Here are some early signs to watch for:

  • Memory lapses: Forgetting dates, events, or asking the same question repeatedly.
  • Trouble planning: Difficulty organizing tasks or solving problems.
  • Daily struggles: Tasks like dressing or bathing become more challenging.
  • Confusion: Getting lost, forgetting the time/date, or having vision problems.
  • Communication issues: Difficulty reading, writing, or following conversations.
  • Misplacing things: Losing belongings and being unable to find them.
  • Poor judgment: Making risky financial decisions or behaving inappropriately.
  • Social withdrawal: Isolating from friends and family.
  • Mood swings: Feeling restless, anxious, or easily upset.

But here’s the good news! There are ways to keep your brain healthy:

Brain Games: Puzzles, reading, or learning new skills can stimulate nerve cells.
Socialize: Stay connected with loved ones for mental stimulation and support.

Break the stigma. Support caregivers & healthcare heroes!
